Hi Kara,
I really like to use the term scaffolding when talking about prior knowledge. Just a thought....

Hi Kara:

One of my favorite strategies is student choice. I find that the more students have choices in the classroom the more they are engaged in process. For example when my students are to write an essay on bears I let them choose which bear they would like to write about.
